If you view source for the page above you'll find this-

<DIV CLASS="pages_page_title"><A
HREF="javascript:location='ht'+'tp://www.2watch.com/'"
ONMOUSEOVER="window.status='ht'+'tp://www.2watch.com/'; return true"
ONFOCUS="window.status='ht'+'tp://www.2watch.com/'; return true"

Internet Access At Work. Easy. Effective. Block inappropriate
content. For computer network at work, school, library</DIV>
<DIV CLASS="pages_page_url">http://www.2watch.com/</DIV>

The important part is this-

<A HREF="javascript:location='ht'+'tp://www.2watch.com/'"
ONMOUSEOVER="window.status='ht'+'tp://www.2watch.com/'; return true"
ONFOCUS="window.status='ht'+'tp://www.2watch.com/'; return true"
ONMOUSEOUT="window.status=''; return true">Internet Filter</A>

It's a javascript link which means Google etc... won't see it as a
backlink in this case to http://www.2watch.com/

I used to use this type of code (a better version than this one) to
hide affiliate links from search engines (now use rel="nofollow") and
have even posted the use of '+' within the ht'+'tp to make sure the
search engines won't understand this as a link (just in case they ever
read javascript).

If they add a link like this to your site (I didn't see your URL on
that page?) it will not count as a backlink.

Seems to me to be a way to pull in link partners at no cost. If
someone did this to me I wouldn't trust them with anything else since
it is a con.

You know it's a con and not a mistake because they use
ONMOUSEOVER="window.status='ht'+'tp://www.2watch.com/' so when you
hover over the link the URL shows in the bottom left status bar of the
window. They do this to make it look like a real link, if they didn't
with the above code it would look something like
javascript:location='http://www.2watch.com/ in the status bar (like
you see with javascript links) which would immediately alert you to
the con.

a quick way to check for links like these is a right click open in new
window. Or right click copy shortcut and paste it somewhere, you'll
find with each the link looks like-

javascript:location='ht'+'tp://www.2watch.com/'

And not

http://www.2watch.com

As it should be.

Sorry,
It's nothing more than marketing of their services. Here is the
important thing that i wanna share with you - You should focus your
energy on acquiring a smaller number of links from websites whose
theme is similar to yours. This will improve your ranking in the
search engines and as you know links are very important part of any
search engine optimization endeavour.

Of course after someone already stated so. Yes, a person needs links, I
think you need some...is that why you have answered alot of the questions
all at once. NG's sig of course isn't as great as real links from sites.
Also, you should learn how to make a correct sig. Plus, since your site is
new it looks kind of bad with the grey PR and some people will be put off
from that and not want to spend $25 to get the info.

Of course after someone already stated so. Yes, a person needs links, I
think you need some...is that why you have answered alot of the questions
all at once. NG's sig of course isn't as great as real links from sites.
And even though this NG's posts are mirrored on some other sites,
those links [shared in the posts and/or as sigs] count for naught in
99.5% of the mirror sites as the site owenrs fix the links to not
count as backlinks. So no benefit there either in terms of backlinks,
and in terms of Google, PR thoughts.

Personally I think the 'going back a week to answer a bunch of posts
in an hour or less to share the same URL" and switching off between
the two promo thoughts ['learn more about SEO at my site" and 'for
only $25'] is hinting the site is fairly new and the site owner being
a tad over-enthusiastic on "getting the word out" about it.

Given that it is hard to read the main page of it - may not get many
people 'signing up' as I imagine the inner pages, in the paid for
section, may be equally difficult to read. I mean why pay for benefit
of reading a tutorial if you can't even read the first page of the
site? This is not taking into consideration some of the 'answers'
shared here in response to posts.

I imagine that today we will be seeing Pramod sharing spiel posts in
response to older posts that date back to the beginning of April.
He's about halfway there now ...

Quote:
Also, you should learn how to make a correct sig.
<span style="cannot-resist">
You missed an opportunity to say you could share with him how to do
that "for only $25" ... or perhaps by sharing an URL to your site with
a page about it? LOL!
</span>

Plus, since your site is

Well those who know about PR may be - recall he is promoting it to
folks who 'don't know about SEO' though ... so they may not know about
gray PR displays.

Lets just for one minute assume you are right. Why are you smothering
this NG in your URL? Do you not realize these posts are mirrored on
loads of web sites that will not be themed with your site?

You've suggested in other posts unrelated links will result in a

My guess is that the person thought "oh boy, not only could I get a
couple of folks paying for temporary access to my tutorial ... but I
can get some backlinks courtesy of posting umpteen times too!" without
considering many of the mirror sites tweaked their set-ups to not have
any PR flow to the links shared in posts and/or signature lines [so
not show up as a backlink on Google either]. So alll the URL sharing
is kind of pointless - which is why I get a chuckle out of another
person cross-posting here just to share their URLs due to this group
being mirrored.

Recall how long it took Damian to cease posting to promote his site
once noticing how the mirroring was backfiring for his site[s]? And
that was before 'themed links' started to move to the front burner
thoughts with many people.

I bet some of those mirror sites have backed it up with using
rel="nofollow" to help on Yahoo and MSN ignoring those 'mirrored
copies' URLs shared 'counting in some way'. So won't be helpful on
those SEs either.
