Default several questions - 08-20-2006 , 12:17 PM

Hello all

I have a website in php that i am re-developing. (not me, someone, for
me)
I have in that site more than 10.000 pages indexed in google and i need
them to continue to be indexing.

The pages are not search engine friendly however google seems to like
the pages because indexes them all.

Option 1

I dont know if in the new code of the site i should maintain the same
urls or not.
And if i choose to maintain the same
"not-friendly-url-but-that-google-likes-them", how do i do that?
I mean, i just put the new site with the new code online and remove the
old site?

Option 2

Or should i have the new site with friendly URLS?
But if i change the URLs what will happen to the 10.000 pages indexed
with the old urls? What will be the best way to do this?

Option 3? - Maybe there is an option i dont know, if you can be so kind
to let me know i would appreciate.

One final note: I have made small changes in the content of most of the
10.000 pages, not much, basically the pages are articles, i have
updated the articles in their categories, corrected a few mistakes etc
Also the title of the pages will be changed.

Another thing: the page css is not yet defined. I believe that the new
pages should have a structure that would be seo friendly. Can anyone
tell me if there is a website with the most correct page structure
online that i could send to my coder so that he can implement it when
building the page?

Many thx
eu

Yes. Don't even try to change them.

To improve site SEOwise - look if you can't change titles to better suit
your keywords, do the same to descriptions, use <h1> tags to show titles
on the pages, use navigation (menus) to raise keyword density and add
keywords in anchor texts. That's if it wasn't done previously, sites that
were made without SEO have usually a room for improvement in these areas.
Don't overdo.

No idea if such things as best page structure exist. You may look at my
sites for a structures that work, no idea how "correct" they are.

If they're indexed then you should.

Why do you think they're unfriendly if Google indexes them? If they
were unfriendly urls, they wouldn't be indexed. I'm not sure why
you're changing the site anyway; why are you? Is it just because none
of the pages rank well?

Hi Borek

Thank you for your help.
What do you mean with "use navigation (menus) to raise keywords
density" ?

Hi BB

Thx for your reply.
I say they are unfriendly because they have lots of characters etc in
the url, not like the non dinamic sites.

I am changing the site because i need to improve the database in order
to improve relation between some fields then at the moment are not in
the database.

I will mantain the urls then but there is still one thing that i dont
understand: is how i am going to pass from one site to another.
At this moment i have the site in the webserver root folder, and the
new site in a folder called new site.

I also have a third folder called conversion where i am checking all
the articles and "building" the new database fields.

When i finish re-builiding the content in the new database, how do i
do?

I mean, i just move the content in the new site folder to the webserver
root folder?

Thx
eu

You may use kewywords in menus, you may use keywords in navbar that shows
where the user is inside of the site. Every occasion of using keyword on
the page is good, especially if it is not hidden and serves a user (as
well as SE ).

This is too complicated for me. It's a relational database that you're
putting new fields into and this will alter the urls because the urls
are made from values derived from the fields?

He means stick a menu down the left hand side of the page with links
to pages in the site which will naturally have related keywords in it.
Probably.
