Default SERPS Shifting - 02-14-2008 , 04:34 AM

I'm seeing some seemingly off-the-wall SERP changes going on. I know
that google is in everflux but this is like nothing I have seen. Sites
up and down like a dogs dinner (though mine's been fairly stable for the
most part). I have been seeing this since the start of Feb - anyone else
seeing this?

Jez.

Hi Jez
I have noticed it for 4-5 days now. Minor shifts before that.

Yes, it seems to have shifted up a gear or two since the start of the month.

The strangest one I had was for two keywords.

Native American Indians
American Indians.

American Indians dropped out of the picture all together. It wasn't
even in the top 887 sites. [Was # 97]

Native American Indians dropped 88 to 300 - and later it went to 137

I could have understood it if it were the other way round.

Yes, but more odd than some sites dropping are some of the ones that are
rising I think. Some that you would never expect to be top 10 even are
top 5. It looks to me like a slight rise of emphasis of on page SEO. No
idea why some drop out though.

I have had some that rose in the stats. But there were some huge drops
too.
Similar was reported on WMW.

My traffic is going up again, so whatever they did, it was good for me :-)

Is there a tool that reports the position or do you manually browse
the results?

I use SEO Administrator. I do have to slow it wa-a-a-a-ay down,
though, else Google susses it's automatically querying and promptly
stops responding to it. A rank check that used to take ten minutes
will take an hour or so these days.
