Default SERP's / links from forum pages - 12-26-2005 , 10:37 AM

I know Google calculates values for each link based on PR but what about
links that are on a 0 PR page such as forum pages? Would it help my SERP's
if, for example, people posted a few thousand messages at various message
boards / forum pages and had my website address (my website address has my
main key word) in their Sig for each message, would that boost my SERP's for
Google and the other top SE's? Just to be clear, I'm not talking about
spamming forum pages.

Yes it would help your SERP depending on the pagerank of the main page.

so if http://www.ukwebmasterforums.com/ was a PR5, then the showthrea
pages would be PR

1. There is no such thing as 0 PR page - what Google shows is a
truncated value, as far as PR model goes true (non-truncated values)
are used for calculations - so every page counts.

2. I tend to belive that such messages help, although it seems to
me that 10 links from different domains does more good to your
SERPs that 10 links from one domain. But that's only intuintion,
without hard research to back the idea.

Best,
Borek

BB
I thought you said that you should make sites for users and not search
engines ?

I am sure it was you that said it.
I just wondered why then, that I had to copy and paste what was on the
very top of the page ..

"Webmaster forum for chat / discussions and web design help, free
webmaster tutorials including html, css, javascript, asp, php, mysql,
seo, ftp, telnet, search engines, xml, .net, ado, sql, flash,
graphics, photoshop."

May be you want to increase the size, so it can be read by humans

Don't know if it is BB or not, but that site has articles from other sites.
Don't know if there was a permission to use them or not. For instance:
http://www.ukwebmasterforums.com/arc....php/t-34.html - That is not
an original article nor does it have credits given to anyone.
http://www.ukwebmasterforums.com/arc....php/t-43.html - Same with
this one.
And this one http://www.ukwebmasterforums.com/arc....php/t-35.html. I
am sure if I did looked over those articles that there are more copies of
articles listed.

And then of course listing the "Usenet" forums again. We know that
permission was not given for those. I did not release my permission to make
copies of my postings. But of course this seems to be a increasing thing
with all these Usenet mirrors. This of course is different than Affiliate
stuff, you get permission to list their products and their descriptions.

None of your stuff should be in there as you are not a UK webmaster
These mirror groups are becoming a PITA, nearly as much as scraper
sites. But they will both be here for some time yet

Didn't see that in my reader and it isn't even listed on the Google Groups.

Hmm, does Bill own more then we thought? The owner of that forum also
owns... http://session9.co.uk . My main concern is all the banter given for
copyright issuses and such made by BB himself and the forum has copyright
issues.
