I've used the auto-promotion features of this site for a year or two
now. My subscription is up for renewal again, and before I pony up some
more money, I'm curious what others think of it. Are the promotions to
the various search engines that it does really all that useful?

Are you refering to the auto resubmit to the search engines? If so,
there really is no reason to re-submit to the spidering search engines
anymore, they have improved that much.
Selfpromotion.com is a great resource for people submitting sites for
the first time, but after that it might not be as useful.
