I went there and saw a typical scummy directory

Internal Server Error

The server encountered an internal error or

your request.

Please contact the server administrator,
support (AT) e-channel (DOT) com.au and inform them

you might have/done that may have caused the
error.

More information about this error may be
available in the server error log.

So whatever it is it is not effective.

I was actually curious about it, because i
have to date spent no money on search engine
marketing and i am doing pretty well, so i
was interested in the topic -- but it's just
another pile of margarine-flavoured puss, alas.

Lightbulb Search Marketing experiment - 08-04-2006 , 12:40 AM

Hi guys.

For all those in SEM and SEO, there is a website you will find interesting. It was launched by e-channel, an Australia search engine marketing company.

Tuesday Island is a new hotel accommodation website. While other travel sites are spending between $10,000 and $500,000 per month on search engine marketing, Tuesday Island has no initial advertising budget.

Tuesday Island is a real life experiment in Search Engine Marketing, the purpose of which is to determine if it is possible for a website to grow and be successful with no initial advertising budget.

All information about the site, its progress and its SEM strategies will be made available in monthly reports for those who are interested. The website is: www.tuesdayisland.com/experiment.

The site has been up and available on the web since May 1 2006. So far, Tuesday Island has made $22 profit.

What the heck does echannel have to do with Tuesdayisland. Or are you just
popping it in just for S&G's.

Now I see how the site was related to echannel. This whole posting was
spamming instead of adding anything productive or asking a question and
leaving a signature.

Oh yes.

I obviously did not post enough information about what Tuesday Island actually is in my first post. Firstly, the link I should have given you is
http://www.tuesdayisland.com/experiment

Second, the website is an experiment in SEM. Visit http://tuesdayisland.typepad.com/the_experiment/2006/08/about_the_site_.html

As for e-channel, we are the company who is running the experiment. For information about who we are and what we have to do with Tuesday Island, please visit http://tuesdayisland.typepad.com/about.html

If you are interested in SEM and SEO, visit the sites, as they are worthwhile. We are posting all information about the Tuesday Island on the blogs, so people can see the benefits of SEM and SEO on a real-life website. This includes its progress, changes to the site and its strategy, and its financial standing.

Hope this explains Tuesday Island a bit better.

You spend $35k on SEO and didn't even complete all of the description
tags?

Hmmm, that doesn't add up right.

Could you please post a sample URL that doesn’t have description tags? We randomly checked and they all seem there.

35K has been allocated over a 2 year period so far only $3,000 has been spent. All financial and ranking information is posted on our report site. You need to sign up to see it but if you have any specific questions please post them and I will try to answer them for you. This experiment is trying to emulate what it would be like for a site with no start up budget to compete with the big brands. We are going for organic traffic and plan to pour profits into ppc – so far we have made $22 wich should buy us about an hour of ppc . Our first challenge is to get the site spidered and to get links and that is not an easy thing to do on a unknown brand that sells inventory via an affiliate agreement. Once we have enough links and a reasonable page rank we will look at improving the ranking – perhaps get into the nitty gritty of meta tags.

On the page I saw before, it was actulally missing. With one quick
look at your home page I can see that your description and keyword tags
are inversed. With your main description looking like a list of
keywords, do you actually expect someone to click on that listing?

You should find someone to do your SEM correctly if you want your
"experiment" to work out (especially if you are paying $35k). I could,
but I only work for high-end clients and friends that have respectable
web sites. One of my clients already has travel keywords locked and I
won't compete with his listings.

What? Are you suggesting that Google is displaying the keywords
instead of the description in the snippet because they're placed
before the description in the document structure?
