Default SEO factors - 11-13-2003 , 06:48 AM

When trying to get incoming links to boost my site's Google Pagerank (PR),
is it important to have links directed straight to the page concerned? I
have a .com domain, but users typing this top level domain (TLD) or clicking
on a link to it are directed to www.website.com/aspx/abc.aspx (I've removed
the domain name).

I'm wondering if (i) the redirecting from .com to the url above adversely
affects optimisation and PR, and (ii) if setting up links to the TLD is a
total waste of time if users never actually 'land' on that page.

I've read some e-books and tried some basic SEO that got my site from a PR
of zero a couple of weeks ago to a 4 now. I'm also ranked top for two
phrases I was after and one other by chance. They're secondary keyphrases
though. I bombed out on the high-traffic primary term I was after.

One final question, if anyone knows: does anyone know how important it is
for SEO to get a DMOZ listing? I'm still waiting for this, and my DMOZ
submission targets my primary search term. Maybe that, along with changing
the pagenames (the 'abc' bit in the url above) to include my hyphenated
keyphrases, will help.

I'll disclose the sitename to anyone interested in having a look, but would
prefer to do so privately.

yes
And, most importantly with the exact anchor text you want to optimize
for in the link. With Google, anchor text of links tends to be MUCH more
important than PR.

Thanks for the comments, William and Robert. I'm setting up links with the
correct anchor text now, and pointing them at the correct pages.

Did anyone have any comments on the relative importance of a DMOZ listing,
and also the question about redirecting from the tld to the homepage? You
can check the site - www.jetsetfriends.com. It's early days, and it's still
a bit sparse. What you'll see is just a holding site until the full thing is
ready.

Thanks for the help.

This helps, but is hardly essential.

This can kill your site in Google. QUIT DOING THIS!
