Default ref 9 months online, what options should I turn to now? - 12-19-2006 , 06:45 AM

Hi Group, I have an niche little website that is slowly growing in size
and am just after some recomendations for what route to turn to next.
Obviously I would like the site to grow organically however just with a
little more speed.
I have followed many Ideas from this Group as the information has been
great, however I am asking if someone would have a look at our web
site.
http://www.antivirusnews.co.uk

Site Spec.
Joomla frame
MySQL database
Robots.txt
Google Sitemaps
Sitemap on the website
Plenty of daily content
googlebot searches around 1500 hits per month according to webaliser.
pagerank 3

Any help would be great, thanks in advance

lee

Hi
I had a quick look and spotted :
No H1 at all
Fails validation.
Over doing it with the keyword metatag [which is ignored by google]
Colors a little pale - not good for people with poor eyesight.
Fixed font site - again not good for people with poor eyesight.
URLs could be rewitten to be more SEO friendly eg, you have this :
/index.php?option=com_frontpage&Itemid=1&limit=15&l imitstart=15

from a design point of view, the content is really marginalised between
two massive menues, also theres no graphic content to draw your eye to
the latest news... if you think about DIG its all about the news, not
the navigation... up to date content is the only way to keep people
coming back to your site and currently its unclear whats new, hot or
important.

im not saying do away with nav, just scale it back and draw people to
your content!

Thanks paul, thanks mark

The Validation is something I am going to work on over the xmas period
for sure, and also getting mod-rewrite to work correctly. At the
moment, If I use any type of 're-writing tool' the site goes on 404
except the home page. have not investigated this.. My initial plan was
to include this

Mark, The Front page is a little untidy, and it is great to have
feedback from others eyes. I am considering to render the page using
white background and black text and colour possible in a similar blue
to what I am using now for borders etc. I agree content is better on
the main page than a menu system that after reading your post, almost
has more page than the content again, another task i will try to
implement over the xmas period. The Menu system needs a rethink also.

Next question from me to you all.

If you were the webmaster of antivirus news What 3 changes would you
first implement to make it better for indexing or to head towards PR4?

again regards

lee

lee tried to write!
my fingers overtook my brain.

please rephrase that last paragraph or so..
I agree 100% mark, content weight more important on the front page..
Bizzarely I see this every day whilst reading a news paper!
The Menu system I will re-build and probably just use the left or right
hand side of the page for this, not both. Maybe the other side could be
used for sponsored ads or whatever.

again sorry for the cuffuffle..

Without reading the content of the site it would be hard to identify
what needs to be done. I think most people here would tell you to work
on the content, making it the best virus news website available which
would then naturally grow in status in the serps. otherwise build links
my friend, build links!!! (and implement some semantic structure into
your sites code), oh and re-work your title tags - thats all there is
to it... just the usual, nothing more!
