Default Redirects are being indexed by Google / Yahoo - 04-11-2006 , 05:44 PM

http://www.hondaphoenix.com/html/Pho...da-dealer.html

The above url is being indexed by both Google and Yahoo, yet is a clear
redirect to another site. They appear to be spamming the search
engines. As multiple pages on the site are being indexed. Yet, I can't
find out how they are doing it. Looks like some kind of 302
redirect...server side??

anyways...questions:

1. Does this violate the TOS for both Google and Yahoo.
2. How long until Google or Yahoo figure this out and take care of it??
3. How did they do it??

Now why would you say they are spamming? Looks like they have a redirect
which is totally ok. Now I did find some blog spam and plenty of it.

Google and Yahoo have guidelines for webmasters, a redirect is fine
depending on how it is done. A "terms of service" is for people who use a
service like you using the search engine or their email.

Yahoo loves spam it seems. Turn them in and see what happens. Each search
enigine has a spam report form. Depends on when they can get around to it.

The redirect? They had a page redirected to the other.
http://staceyssimplestuff.com/ is redirected to
http://www.staceyssimplestuff.com/ . I did a 301 rewrite.

The spam? They got a lot of freebie blogs and went for it.

Is getting indexed not using the service of Google, and abusing this
service a violation of the terms of service?

I get more and more often "members" on a PHPbb board I admin that enter
the captcha. I was wondering today how many sign ups of this form one can
buy for 100 USD (I mentioned 100, but that sounds almost like a good deal,
so I guess it might be as much as 10,000).

Google indexes what they feel. You don't have to agree to anything. Spam is
not listed in Google's TOS http://www.google.com/terms_of_service.html. But
when using the search engine then I have to agree with the TOS or accept
them and also accept them for using any other things that Google has like
their email and such. Now Yahoo does state to refer to the spam policy in
their TOS, but they also mentioned all their services etc and not to spam
with them. Yahoo will pick up your page also without you having to agree
with anything.:-) It is like this it is their choice or their algo's choice
to pick a page, it is also their choice to remove a page.

Seems likely. There are always other ways to spam.

Because they all are redirected. And it looks like they changed the
redirection to the same page from looking at the cache. Don't worry Google
will catch up to them for this as yes, this part is spam when all those
pages wind up on the same page. You need to look at the caches and you will
see that it used to be different. Now I looked through the site and now they
use frames. Will be a problem later as it isn't done properly nor or their
redirects. It isn't like they are a big spammer though. Just their redirects
are not done properly. Why in the heck is this site bugging you so much?
Because showcasehonda is #1 for Honda Phoenix?

Yes, I am another Honda dealer and it is bugging me. Especially when I
am someone who plays by the rules. I do have a few sites that redirect
myself. But, I know they are not indexed and I am fine with that. I use
them for tracking more than anything else.
