Does anyone know from where Yahoo gets its snippets?

If you search Yahoo for "dance of death" (without quotes), result #5 is
www.geocities.com/ppollefeys/main.htm.

The result has the snippets "As I am, so thou shall be" and "attractively
illustrated website", but this text does *not* appear on the site. If
you search for the snippets they appear in a *review* of the page
http://www.humbul.ac.uk/output/full3.php?id=10619.

The site owner is a pen pal of mine, and I know he doesn't use cloaking or
other
exotic tricks.

Eh? Dance of Death text is on the page and so is a link that goes to another
page with this text?

I understand why it's #5 - but why does Google take the description

www.PageRank.dksnippets from another page?

Because it's the nearest text match in the body.

Are we talking about the same page?
The page http://www.geocities.com/ppollefeys/main.htm does not have "As I am, so
thou shall be" or "attractively
illustrated website" anywhere.
Nor any cloaking, you say.

When I search for dance of death, the fifth result looks like this in the

I can see that.

What exactly does "Tel que je fus comme tu es, et tel tu seras comme je
suis" translate into english. It must have something to do with the fact
that a french link is provided.

Didn't Yahoo used to get their results from Dmoz ? If so, could that be what
an Open Source Directory reviewer wrote ?

But "this attractively illustrated website" doesn't sound French to me
:-)
Anyway, the whole point of my thread was that I found it weird that
Yahoo uses *another* site in order to make its snippets.

It seems to come from
http://www.humbul.ac.uk/output/full3.php?id=10619.
It is not a straightforward link from there to the site in question,
but seems to be some kind of re-direct
If you note, the site is not in the Yahoo cache, but Yahoo Knows
the page exists because of the re-direct.
If this is happening, it opens up Yahoo to a lot of abuse.

I was as you are -- as you will be -- I am.
Or something like that, indeed (need to improve my english...)
