Hi,
Ignore what the rest of them say here, I've tested this and similar
linking strategies and it does work. It's not as hard as getting
recipricol links (10 to 15 links in half an hour is easily possible)
and it' easy to find PR4 sites to link from and with patience PR 5s
and the odd 6.
You can find examples of this by doing a little research. Go to forums
that are indexed and follow the links from profiles. When you find one
that's only got links from the forum with reasonable PR you'll see it
works (I've seen plenty of examples).
Obviously a link from a page with no relevance to the PAGE (Google
looks at pages, not sites as whole) that's been linked to will not
produce as good as results as a page that's got text that's relevant
to the linked site.
Page Rank (PR) has nothing what so ever to do with theming, so if you
get links from high PR pages AND Google indexes those pages, your PR
will increase. Since PR is a big part of Google algorithm it will
improve your SERPs.
Currently Google doesn't use theming, but it does use the anchor text
of incoming links and possibly the surrounding text. So if you go for
links from anywhere try to get your keywords in the anchor text and
surrounding text.
To know if a page with high PR will give you a boost in PR if it links
to you see if it has any backlinks. If it doesn't it suggests the page
isn't indexed and the PR value is a guess based on the domains PR.
Lot's of forums have session IDs which means they can't be indexed and
so there PR are guesses. I also find doing an "
allinurl:domainname.com " search in Google helps determine if a page
is likely to transfer PR.

If I was to go all over the internet registering on a million different
forums and including my site's url in my profile would that make google give
me better results because of my link popularity?
thanks
