NOT TRUE. This is not necessarily good advice. Google will decide that
a site is about "The environment site" based on keyword desnity in the
spiderable text and other factors. Having the hypen in the name, at
best, only provides one more mention of the keyword ... if it even
does this. This topic has been debated ad nauseum elsewhere and the
consensus among those who know a lot more about this than I do is that
it would make no or very minimal difference.

On the off chance that it might make a minimal difference, if
registering a new name or creating, it might be worth it. I would not
waste time setting a a new website for the-environment-site as
incoming links would have ot be changed etc etc. Position in the
search results at Google is based on >100 factors...this maybe 1 of
them, but probably number 99 in importance.

Tis so.

Is, is.

Assuming it's there enough etc. etc.

Um. I think there's a subtle point there that you've missed. We're
explaining why a search for "the environment site" won't find the site
despite it's domain name, not the advantages or disadvantages of
having your keywords in the domain name.

the blacks against the whites, the Federation against the Borg,
or the Democrats versus the Republicans. It's those of us who
aren't complete idiots against those of us who are.

Despite your use of caps, I still feel you are incorrect.
If this site acquires say 1000 backlinks where the anchor/link text is
www.theenvironmentsite.org then the site will do well if someone searches
for word "theenvironmentsite" (highly unlikely search)

However, if the 1000 backlinks are created with the following anchor/link
text www.the-environment-site.org then the site will do well if someone
searches for the phrase "the environment site". Its still a poor keyword
phrase but it beats "theenvironmentsite"... and at least the site will
receive a ranking boost because of the word "environment" being in the
anchor/link text of 1000 backlinks.

phew!
