What you should of done is register the domain www.the-environment-site.org since Google does consider this as three separate words and so a search for 'The Environment Site' may find this domain. |

Google will decide that a site is about "The environment site" based on keyword desnity in the spiderable text and other factors. |

Having the hypen in the name, at best, only provides one more mention of the keyword ... if it even does this. This topic has been debated ad nauseum elsewhere and the consensus among those who know a lot more about this than I do is that it would make no or very minimal difference. |

On the off chance that it might make a minimal difference, if registering a new name or creating, it might be worth it. I would not waste time setting a a new website for the-environment-site as incoming links would have ot be changed etc etc. Position in the search results at Google is based on >100 factors...this maybe 1 of them, but probably number 99 in importance.
