Default Search Results Customization - Pay per View Indicator - 02-04-2008 , 01:25 PM

I gave up searching for a web page dedicated to accepting user
improvement suggestions for Google's basic search engine. All I could
find was a few examples of new apps in beta.

I hope that someone at Google is monitoring this group.

I frequently search for scientific and medical information. When I am
in a hurry it would be most helpful if the search results page
contained indicator words to tell me if:

1) access to the linked page is free and complete

2) there is a free abstract but detailed information requires a 'pay
per view' subscription

3) the entire linked page requires payment up front.

In some instances, it would be even more helpful if there were a
filter setting in 'preferences' that would allow the filtering of
results to block types (3) and or (2) above.

Do I so misunderstand the business relationships that define Google
that these suggestions would be seen by someone knowledgeable as
naive? Do the Springers and the Wileys of this world pay to be
indexed?

Thanks,

baumgrenze

That would be a surprise

That sounds familiar, I've run into a similar problem when trying to
find answers to software questions... most of the SERPs are places like
expertsexchange that give you a question / teaser and require paid
subscription to actually read the replies.

What I ended up doing was put "-expertsexchange" in the query

Or disable JS. All-in-all it's pathetic cloaking, and beyond me why Google
allows for it.
