Default SERPS but no PR - is ok? - 06-15-2005 , 11:49 AM

Hi,

I recently built a site to advertise my electrical and communications
business (about 3 or 4 months ago). I'm sure the site wont win any
prizes for it's SEO prowess, but I have followed many words of wisdom
from the regular guys in this group (thanks!).

All seems ok, I got a small amount of links from PR 3 and 4 sites
(friends and business contacts). Google picked these up relatively
quickly and has indexed the site (I think).

Quote:
From my web stats, I can see that the site is getting hits from search
engines - I also tried 'test' searches against my keywords, again not
too bad.

Above said, the site has not gained any Google PR.

My questions:
1. Does having PR really matter?
2. If ans to 1. is yes, should I expect to gain better SERP's following
eventual allocation of PR?
3. I remember reading somewhere about newer sites being put under
'quarantine' for some reason (high initial links when google first
picks up i think) - could this be happening to my site and explain no
PR?

Many thanks in advance!

** FYI, my site is http://www.abletek.co.uk

public PageRank is only updated once in a while. So you might see 0 but it
actually is 4.

It just means they didn't do a PR update since you've been indexed.
It's normal. You don't get assigned visible PR immediately you swim
into the Google consciousness.

Moot.

Moo - oh, sorry, ahem, we don't really know stuff, we observe
phenomena and assume they come ina pattern, but we don't realyy "know"
stuff here. I'd lean towards the "probably" side of moot in all of the
above.

Speak for yourself Bill, some us "know stuff" without having to assume
anything.

Ok, I have 2 questions for you:

[1] Can you show me how you calculated the number of links on my personal
page based on PageRank? (e.g. 20-25)?

[2] Did my JavaScript tips make your page validate?

Thanks,

Yes I can, can you?

Helps to understand how PR 'leaks' to make those types of calculations
:-D

Which javascript tips?

Was that about the marquee thing? If so I don't use marquees, it was
an example of error free code (browser specific) that causes validator
errors because it's browser specific. So the general suggestions you
gave I had no reason to try.

What's with the back tracking lately Bill!

First it's not saying 40 visitors when you did and now it's not saying
WE when you did.

You said-

"sorry, ahem, WE don't really know stuff, WE observe phenomena and
assume they come ina pattern, but WE don't realyy "know" stuff here."

Now unless you think yourself as the Borg, that's an awful lot of WE
if you meant I. I would agree with you if you change the we to I ;-)
