Hi folks, Lately I've been shopping for a domain, and I have been encountering, like most people have no doubt, that many domains are owned by people who aren't using them, although they might have a page full of links. Often there is some note saying that the domain is "for sale". However when I email the owners, they never ever respond. Even if it says to inquire about buying at some email, it's useless because they never respond. Why is that? Are they selling domains on Ebay or something? Thanks for any clues. |

I have encountered the same thing with names that are not (apparently) being used. I even wrote a proper letter to a registrant once, asking if the name was for sale. Didn't get a reply. |

Carved in mystic runes upon the very living rock, the last words of Charles Sweeney of alt.www.webmaster make plain: Bush is a Fascist wrote Hi folks, Lately I've been shopping for a domain, and I have been encountering, like most people have no doubt, that many domains are owned by people who aren't using them, although they might have a page full of links. When I first brought my business to the web, I tried to register holotech.com, but it was taken, so I went with holotech.net. After a while I had a few bucks laying around, and decided to see if the guy wanted to sell the .com, as he had no site on it. I tried everything I could think of to contact this guy. No response by email. No response by snail mail. No answer after endless ringing at the phone number. I Altavista'd (no Google back then) his name, somehow found his (former) ISP, and called them. They told me that if I managed to find him, to let them know, as he owed them money. This guy could have made a few hundred bucks off me, but never responded. A year or so later the registration expired and I snagged it. |
