I've just done a redirect 301 on a page that has a PR3 but when I get
redirected the new page has a PR0 why is this?

I thought the PR was carried over by google on a 301 or does it have to
spider or something first?

I did the same with some PR4 internal pages, they showed as zero
for about 6 weeks, then went back to 4

What do you think about this?

Here is the redirect
http://automobileinsurance.insurance...nsurance-quote

Here the actual page:

http://216.239.41.104/search?sourcei...rance-quote%2F

I can do this but thought it was a no-no.

This guys ranks high for lots of insurance searches.

Based on the rambling sentence on the cached version its obvious it
was made using automated software.

This looks like a good example of cloaking. He is probably using a clocking
script that determines what IP address the visitor comes from.

Does anyone know what it does?

The script generates this code:

onLoad=""

frame name="topFrame" scrolling="auto"

/frameset

Martin, how did you decode that?

Martin, how did you decode that?

I didn't decode it (too much work).

I just changed,
result=result+String.fromCharCode(arrayofstring[i]-9);
into
result=result+String.fromCharCode(arrayofstring[i]-9)+" ";
(that is: I added +" " near the end).

Thanks alot for taking the time to check this. Is it cloaking if both
the cached page and the page delivered are relevant to the search?

Or only when their is obvious deception? Such as search for onething
and delivered another.

I have spent lots of time trying to be somewhat "clean" in my SEO
efforts and then drop out of the ranks and then this guy dominates
thru redirects and cloaking.

Tim

Hi Tim,

It is cloaking ANYTIME you present one thing to spiders and another to
visitors, regardless of intention. Whether it is "un-ethical" or not is the
primary question...which is really tough to answer and whether you will get
in trouble by using the technique is the REAL..and most pertinent question.

Ethical and Un-ethical are not absolute, they are in the mind of the
beholder...not like truth. Just because a Search Engine calls something
un-ethical, doesn't mean it really is...only that they consider it wrong.
IT depends upon how much authority you place with that organization.

If you want to sleep well at night knowing your clients run little chance of
getting banned, stay away from these sort of techniques. Good SEO should
beat spammy methods in most...but not all cases.

If your clients need this sort of technique because you have tried all good
SEO stuff and you are still not seeing the results you desire, give them a
try but be forewarned...if a Directory or Search Engine catches you, can be
permanently banned...which makes for a poor topic of conversation at the
clients' location.

:-)
