Hi

I'm trying to get my site, http://www.siliconglen.com higher up the
google listings for a search on "Scotland" or "Scottish", as it hosts
the first online guide to Scotland. Yet despite the home page and some
internal pages having PR6, the site does not appear in the first 100
search results. Whilst I appreciate this is a competitive term, can
anyone explain why I don't appear?

scottish-weddings.com, scottish-music.com and scotlandjobs.com also
point to the same website.

I redesigned the page a few months ago so that the left navigation
appears after the body text but this doesn't seem to have made any
difference.

thanks
Well done with yout PR6 !.

I think (just a guess) your home page is being penalised to some extent due
to excessive use of the word scotland. I would make the following changes in
word counts:
scotland 26 - 12 = 14
glen 9 - 2 = 7
silicon 9 - 2 = 7
scottish 8 -1 = 7
Note that with these changes scotland, at about 11%, is still higher than
optimum but it is much better than before. The penalisation will be much
smaller. The next words are half these figures which is important and will
make the page distinctly scotland !
I would not try to attract people to the home page with scottish. The word
is an adjective and is normally used with another word so you can best
optimise for these with particular deeper pages describing and referring
evenly to scottish tartan, scottish fishing etc, like scottish 7%, tartan
7%, next 3.5%, word 3.45% etc.
All your links must have proper anchor text with the aggregate totals making
similiar shape word distributions to the target pages.
Best regards, Eric.
