Hello there.

I live in a country where although google is a lot used, there are
still 3 older portal sites with good directories, where most people use
to do their online searches.

I would like to know if there is any software, or if it can be made, to
retrieve what users are searching in those sites.
If they come to your site, check your access_log it should have referers
(if not, change the configuration / have it changed).

Second question: is there any software to allow me search for best
keywords at google or others SEs, in NON English keywords?
What works for me is writing a page, and don't bother too much about
keywords, and after a day or two check the access_log (referers ;-) ).

Today I discovered that people seem to prefer: turn off over disable, so I
changed the title of the page (but not the h1 contents).

Last but not least, and related to previous: i know that there are a
lot of softwares libe IBP and such that allow me to search for the best
keywords...however i believe that the result will not interest me much
if im looking for a specific regional market...my country...
Is there a software to allow me do that keyword search, but filter only
the searches done in my country? I believe all countries have a
specific range of IPīs right?
One thing you could do is search for a keyphrase, and look at what other
sites use for related words (in the snippets). It might give you some
ideas, especially if those pages are optimized. If not, then it's easy to
put yourself on the first or second SERP :-)

hithere, try to quote the message you reply to (like I do now), it makes
reading easier (I read hundreds of post a day, and sometimes forget what I
wrote).

It has a wealth of info. So much (mine is about 200MB :-) that you
probably want to use a program that makes a nice summary.

About writing a page...you say...after a day or two check the access
logs....im not sure i get your point..after a day or two of what?
What I do normally is write a page, and after about 24 hrs Googlebot picks
it up (I have a program to make nice stats of googlebot visits from the
access_log, see Perl link below). Normally 12-24 hrs after a pick up, it's
on Google and often I see the first hits.

I wrote a page last Friday, and used in the title: .... disable sound.
Today I got the first hit: ... turn off sound. So I decided to change the
title to .... turn off sound, and keep disable sound in the heading.

The third suggestion you have is very interesting...especially if i
then resume the SERPs to the ones in my country TLD..
However sorry about my ignorance...what is a snippet?
the short pieces of text from a page Google shows, with in bold the
keyword(s).

For example:
http://www.google.com/search?q=doorbells

"
Doorbells, Chimes, Knockers and Ringers
These unique, high quality doorbells and door knockers are handcrafted in
solid brass. All doorbells are illuminated. Grove,,

After the page has been live for a day or two and people can read it.

You know in search results the results give a few words from the
actual page found by the results?

Search for

seo timescale

The first two results are mine.

SEO and Ranking Time scale - how long before seo takes visible
affect?SEO Timescale - how long will it take for seo to take effect?
www.kruse.co.uk/seo-timescale.htm - 7k - 10 Dec 2005 - Cached -
Similar pages

SEO Servicesseo timescale, seo benefits, seo software reviews, seo
template. Top 20 in MSN UK for; seo timescale, seo benefits, seo
software reviews, seo template, ...
www.kruse.co.uk/seo-services.htm - 12k - Cached - Similar pages
[ More results from www.kruse.co.uk ]

In the first example, this is the snippet, it's text taken from my
site;

"SEO and Ranking Time scale - how long before seo takes visible
affect?SEO Timescale - how long will it take for seo to take effect?"

in the second example, it's this;

"SEO Servicesseo timescale, seo benefits, seo software reviews, seo
template. Top 20 in MSN UK for; seo timescale, seo benefits, seo
software reviews, seo template, ..."

so a snippet is a few lines or words of text taken from the page and
displayed in search results.

Get the idea?
