That is not necessarily true. People have submitted without links and have
made it in the index. You do need links to stay though sometimes as without
links your site isn't of value to the SE's. Links to your site is a way of
showing that your site is of some use.

Don,
Since you don't know what a robots.txt then you don't have one that is
disallowing Google. A robots.txt is a file that states to allow or disallow
user agents. Don't worry about it, you really don't have to have one, but to
have one to allow would make sure you won't have all those errors on your
server. It really isn't a biggy unless you need to disallow a SE bot....as
the meta no index really doesn't work for some bots.
