The primary difference between Google and Yahoo is
that Google is owned and operated by Anti-American

Actually the search results between Yahoo and Google will vary due to
differences in the algorithems and, by some people's hands on their
sites, how they can manipulate things to have those algorithems in
their site's favor. Yahoo and MSN lean more to on-page touches
[keyword density, meta description, title, and such] while Google
leans to off-page touches [inbound links, anchor text, et al] but will
take into consideration some of the on-page touches [headings, title,
keyword density to some degree, et al]
With Yahoo and MSN then the site author can have more control telling
their spiders what the site is about, yes - but also leaves it open to
that site owner being able to 'spam' keywords to the spiders to get a
higher placement that way ... which, in a way, does suck and can make
some of the searches on Yahoo look 'spammy' with some of the sites
listed in the Top 20 or Top 50.
Compound this with Yahoo doesn't update their index as often as Google
or MSN seem to do; one can wait sometimes up to 6 to 8 months for
Yahoo to take notice of new content and/or changes to some pages. So
changes to better ranking on Yahoo will be slower in showing results
of those changes. I have several new pages of content on one site -
linked to from the main page of the same site; Google and MSN picks up
those pages within 24 hours to 2 weeks whereas Yahoo has yet to
acknowledge some new content added back in January - even doinga
search on the page's URL yeilds 'That page does not exist' message
from Yahoo although their spider happily visits my site quite
regularly.
So with Yahoo one needs to have more patience - in waiting to see the
results of your changes or even for the index to be updated; let alone
more actively competing with 'keyword spammers'. Although, on the
other hand, it is easier to rank decently on Yahoo. In fact some say
if you rank well on Yahoo then you have the on-page elements in place
so you can work on the off-page touches to rank well on Google.
Secondly, with Yahoo, penalizing a site doesnt' seem to exist in their
thinking; if your site gets penalized on Yahoo then it has essentially
been banned from their index - whereas Google could penalize a site
simply by having it drop several slots in placement [which is not the
same at all as banning a site].
Sorry Daniel ... but in this instance the question leaned more to
discussion of those techniques or the search engines' algorithems
versus theorizations which don't play any role.
