I wonder which search engines (or directories) are the most popular after Google and Altavista. I can't find this information anywhere (even on searchengines.com). I can only guess that: Google covers more than 30% of general traffic; Altavista than 20%; this totals more than 50% (maybe 60% or more). Provided that this is correct, which engines come next after? (Including directories). I guess: Yahoo, MSN, AOL... is it correct? I have a trial version of Webposition Gold 2 and I can see that Altavista's "link popularity" is very high, 2,400,000, but I don't understand what "link popularity" means actually. For example AllTheWeb is 366,000, and HotBot is 31,000 only. I can't see this parameter for Google and other engines, since this is the trial version only. Final question: I read the thread about "how long does it take after a link is posted?", and I worried because someone said that submitting does not work (!!?) and links from other indexed sites are needed! (That I do not have). It all this true? Thanks Giancarlo |

Since I did not receive any answer, I made a research by myself and I calculated this results: (percentage on global search traffic) Google = 35.7% Altavista + Lycos + Alltheweb + Yahoo = 33.7% MSN + AOL + Hotbot + Excite + Netscape + Looksmart = 15.8% Overture + Dmoz + Inktomi + Teoma + Askjeeves + Wisenut = 4.6% Other = 10% (supposed) Is this valid? I made this basing on "link popularity", (WebPosition says that this estimates the real traffic) Regards, Giancarlo I wonder which search engines (or directories) are the most popular after Google and Altavista. In article <dbfb676.0307010019.366a645e (AT) posting (DOT) google.com>, amor99 (AT) iname (DOT) com says... Snipped original post asking which SE's are most often used I think you are wrong. Everything that I've heard is that Google/Yahoo (they are pretty much the same now) account for 85% of all searches. I could be way off but I don't think I am. Mike |
