Since I did not receive any answer, I made a research
by myself and I calculated this results:

(percentage on global search traffic)

Google = 35.7%
Altavista + Lycos + Alltheweb + Yahoo = 33.7%
MSN + AOL + Hotbot + Excite + Netscape + Looksmart = 15.8%
Overture + Dmoz + Inktomi + Teoma + Askjeeves + Wisenut = 4.6%

Other = 10% (supposed)

Is this valid?

I made this basing on "link popularity",
(WebPosition says that this estimates the real traffic)

Giancarlo

I wonder which search engines (or directories) are the most
popular after Google and Altavista. I can't find this
information anywhere (even on searchengines.com).

I can only guess that:
Google covers more than 30% of general traffic;
Altavista than 20%;
this totals more than 50% (maybe 60% or more).

Provided that this is correct, which engines come
next after? (Including directories).
I guess: Yahoo, MSN, AOL... is it correct?

I have a trial version of Webposition Gold 2
and I can see that Altavista's "link popularity"
is very high, 2,400,000, but I don't understand
what "link popularity" means actually.
For example AllTheWeb is 366,000, and
HotBot is 31,000 only.

I can't see this parameter for Google and other
engines, since this is the trial version only.

Final question: I read the thread about "how long
does it take after a link is posted?", and I
worried because someone said that submitting
does not work (!!?) and links from other indexed
sites are needed! (That I do not have).
It all this true?

Thanks
Giancarlo

www.searchenginewatch.com is the best all around site on this subject
and there you probably will find all the information. Another good site
is www.bruceclay.com
and of course www.about.com.

I think you are wrong. Everything that I've heard is that Google/Yahoo (they
are pretty much the same now) account for 85% of all searches.
I could be way off but I don't think I am.

You aren't but you may be soon when Yahoo start using inktomi. And
it's soooo volatile out there.

Default Google: site added after 4 days? - 07-07-2003 , 04:59 PM

Hello,

my website antistress.usa.gl (in Italian) was added to Google
4 days only I made it! And I didn't even submit it!

I made 2 links from 2 other websites of mine, and after
4 days, to my surprise, I discovered my site on Google!

Is this a standard?
I just made another website and I wonder how long it
will take to be added.

Thanks,

Fabrizio

Off topic: if you like to know (but I imagine that nobody
will care about this), I am proud to be #1 for two important
Italian keywords:
1) ipotesi (that means hypothesis), www.ipotesi.net is #1!
2) segreto (that means secret), www.segreto.net is #1!
And I did not make anything special to achieve these results.
