Whats the point? When google indexes the site, users are going to have to
login to see the information. Experts - exchange is the most annoying
fucking company on the planet. They manage to pull this off, I hate
thinking I found something, just to be told "Sign up to see..."...

Same on Google News with the subscription sites.

I have developed a dynamic forum site that i want google et al to index.
The problem is there is a login page on the front. Is there a way I can
identify googlebot and let them see certain parts of the site without a
login.

Thanks

Jon

MOST of the time you go to experts exchange from a search engine (at least
in my experience) experts exchange has the question at the top of the page
and you have to scroll down pass all the advertisements to get to the answer
(s) at the bottom of the page, no login required.

I hate that site also, always finding it when looking for a fix. The
description of text always sounds exactly what I'm looking for as
well, making it even more irritating.

Doesn't they provide the answer at the bottom of the page? Or am I thinking
about a different site.

Also, try bugmenot.com

I think you are thinking about a different site. The expert one (I
don't know the URL) tends to crop up for me with highly specific
technical questions. I read the intro bit, scroll down and see you
have to be a subscriber. I've hit that dam site many times.

Interesting idea, will try that next time I find that site, stuck on a
problem now so might be today!

For Firefox there seems to be a plug in that automates this. Haven't tried
it yet.
