Two more databases are gone at google (-fi and -ab) and that makes 3 if
you include -gv (gone last week). Anyone have any theories about what's
going on? In the past couple of months google has gotten rid of quite a
few of its databases (-sj, -zu) and even started some new ones (-kr,
-lm) some of which they've already gotten rid of (-mc, -gv). I'd hate to
be a google databse these days as their life expectancy is not too long.

Just curious but how does one go about finding new google databses when
they start new ones? There seem to be some people that know how to to do
that. Do they just spend all day typing various 2 letter combonations
until they come up with ones that work?

No idea, I only see the ones on the Google Dancemaster
http://www.webworkshop.net/google-dance-tool.html But I guess it doesn't
include all of them as there is no -lm showing.
It's showing -va, fi, zu, gv and mc all gone.

Don't know if you'd noticed- 4 Google servers are now down.

Are we on day five or 6 of this dance anyone know?

Matt

Yes -dc went down last night which makes 4 now. I'm wondering if they
have already started new ones to replace those 4 and how to find out
what they are or if they are planning on having less or maybe even no
small databases just a main database? It could also be another 11/16 on
the way and if that's the case I'll predict it to happen around the
beginning of February, possibly even February 1st (so we can call that
one 2/1 ).

I don't know if you can call what google has been doing even since 11/16
a dance anymore because it seems to go all month more or less. It's more
slow never ending sex with intermittent orgasms. So maybe those databses
that are gone died smiling at least.

Many people are hoping google will be ousted by the new yahoo or
amazon.com or even msn when their new search engines come out but they
won't feel that way once they do all come out. I predict that they will
all fail and only google will survive it maybe as long as they stay free
for all sites. I think yahoo will be the first to go probably around
spring of 2005 or summer the latest. Probably some company that knows
nothing about the internet will buy them out when that time comes.

Interesting thought but when the big money people like bill gates and
others finally figure out charging to have sites listed in search
engines doesn't work and never will what will they do? Will they abandon
the internet completely? Maybe the internet can't be destroyed by greed?
It might have its own built in fail safe to protect against this.

Who says Gates et all will charge for listings? I'm pretty sure they've understood
that they need to make money on things like banners and Pay-Per-Click etc.
