My original question I wondered about because in March I created a
simple web page for someone because I had a chance to get a free domain.
So I figured OK this will be like a free electronic birthday card.
This site has one line of text and 3 gifs in it
That is it, it is one page,
Now somehow this thing got picked up by ask.com
Then it was picked up by dogpile.
Because the domain is just gibberish, it is his email initials, I wasn't
surprised.
Let's say it's msimi.com (made up name)
Then for fun I submitted it Google, MSN and Yahoo to see how long it
would take if ever to get picked up
Surprisingly MSN picked it up in two days and Yahoo in a week.
Well a week or so back Google picked it up.
But here's the jist, in MSN and Yahoo it's listed at
http://msimi.
In Google it comes out as
http://www.msimi.com/
Which is odd as I never type www, even in my links because it's more
work.
Nothing can be pointed to that site because it's gibberish for a domain
name
In MSN it comes up first if you type in the domain name. It comes up 7th
in Yahoo and 12th in google.
Ironically it no longer appears in ask.com
It comes in after some post to usenet groups that this guy did using his
email which is what I based the domain name on.
(For some reason some webpages publish usenet groups on the web.)
So that was part of my question of how does Google pick it up as www
when there was never a www, nor any links as such and I didn't submit it
with a www.
