No. I find it to be one of the most annoying aspects of the W3C

It's to save you from mistakes. If you have followed the discussions wrt
&amp; you should have read that too ;-)

It doesn't cause any problems with the simple html I use, but it makes
it tiring and difficult to use the W3C validator to look for other
_important_ errors in the code, and it means the pages cannot be neat
and valid.
