Amazon among others do not use the & required for validation, You mean - shock shock, horror horror - they give out invalid markup? Do you find that remarkable? Just annoying. but simply the & in their links. Have you pointed this out to them? No, but I'm sure others have. Have you noticed any browsers which choke on this? No. I find it to be one of the most annoying aspects of the W3C validation requirements. It doesn't cause any problems with the simple html I use, but it makes it tiring and difficult to use the W3C validator to look for other _important_ errors in the code, and it means the pages cannot be neat and valid. That really annoys me, so I would prefer to fix this. Now my question is: if I register with Amazon's affiliate program and then modify their links so they validate, might this affect Amazon's ability to recognize my referral? By changing & to & in an href? No. Hell, it might even help!! Also, some links by Amazon lack the alt atrribute, also impeding validation. Truly, they're big bad boys. Do you think they should give empty alts? Yes, because it would suit the validator. I wonder if I can also cut some off the very long anchor text without creating problems... Mikkel Have you tried to make it a "tiny.url" at all and get round it that |
