Default questions on submission to search engines - 07-15-2004 , 04:36 PM

hi there,

i am a UK carpet cleaning business and would like to make my business
available to search engines, directories and possibly business
directories. i have some questions:

what is the best way to submit my site to FREE search engines? i would
think to submit to about 10 of the major ones but isnt it possible to
submit to one spider (ie. inktomi) and it will list in many. i dont
want to submit to many search engines and have it being rejected
because they use the same spider and it regards it as over submission.
what are the major search engines or spiders to submit to?

i have heard that for some directorys however, such as yahoo!, you
need to pay about $199 to submit a commercial web site, is that only
if you are selling products online or does it also apply if you are
advertising your products/services?

can anyone recommend any good FREE UK business directories? also, what
are good UK business directories that you have to pay for?

i have read about pay per click from companies such as overture. can
anybody recommend a good strategy for this?

Get links from other sites that are indexed. The bots will come to you.

I wouldn't submit to Yahoo directory, but that is just me. I have noticed
some favortism to the sites listed in the directory of how they are indexed.
Not much though.

Have you searched for free UK business dorectories on a SE. That might help
you get some that even we don't know about. DMOZ, is the most popular.
