Default Question for SEO Dave..... - 11-09-2003 , 04:49 AM

Dave,
I want to experiment and try your idea about alt text for links. I have
this web site but it's only one page with one pic on it. If I link the
pic so that it links to the domain name of that site and use the title
of the site for the alt text will that do anything and can it work that
way? ~Sam

Hi,

It will at least add you main phrase to the page once since Google
indexes the ALT text of image links for the page they are on.

I don't know if it will benefit the page through a transfer of PR, but
I very much doubt it will. The big question is will the ALT text
benefit the page in the same way if the image link was from another
site?

I don't know, my instinct tells me it wouldn't help, but shouldn't
hurt either. My only concern would be if Google counts the link in the
PR calculation, but doesn't credit the page with the transfer of PR.

So if there where just one other link off the page it might half the
PR transfer to that page. I would guess this wouldn't occur, I think
Googles algo is smarter than that since a lot of pages link to
themselves through standard navigation menus etc... throughout the
site.

Overall it should benefit the page since you just added your keywords
in an indexable form.

David

Last month, I added some alt= text to an image that was also a link to
another page. The text was not added either to the sending page or the
receiving page.
Best regards, Eric.
