I was wondering if you post in this newsgroup with your URL in your sig,
does that count as an inbound link and do the spiders recognize it?

Barely so. There are various URL's where signatures will wind up appearing,
but due to the large volume of messages, PageRank (or equivalents) will be
low. Only citations in pages with merit get good (or any) weighting on
their outbound links.
