I just thought it's a good indication of how deep they have integrated into our lives. Google Earth helps a group of entomologists in their research and they name the species (native of Madagascar) after Google. The ant can be seen here: http://www.antweb.org/description.do...oogle&project= -- Cheers, Dmitri Wait until this time next year and you'll see how fast they un-integrate |

Wait until this time next year and you'll see how fast they un-integrate from google because AOL is going to make a change this summer and dump google for either yahoo or msn search or more thenlikely I think they'll start their own search engine the way they did with DMOZ which actually was owned by Netscape and when AOL bought netscape they owned dmoz. That would be the best move to do their own search engine. Whatever aol uses for their search results for them becomes the number one search engine which means google is on its way next year. When aol used Inktomi they became the biggest, then they went to Excite and they became the biggest, then dmoz which then became the biggest, and most recently google which now is the biggest. So we only have to put up with google's crazy algos one more year kids and then we'll finally be free of all the craziness of it and it is totally bonkers to say the least. AOL GO! |

It actually beats me to understand why AOL did not develop its own search engine 10+ years ago when they entered this whole dial-up business. |

think it is a huge oversight on their part which is not going to be very easy to fix now that their time is gone. You are kidding yourself, though, if you're thinking AOL deal is going to break Google. |

It is very easy to see just how big AOL traffic is compared to Google's by simply looking at one's referrer stats. Traffic from AOL in my case accounts for about 3% that from Google. Yours may be different, |

but I would think it would still be 1/20 of Google's or so. Is it not an indication that Google will survive the loss of 1/20th of its index users? AOL themselves are very much a thing of the past, and they have to re-invent themselves few times over before they can be a serious threat to anybody. |
