Hi Mike,

Well, Google doesn't really do this over night. It just happen to be an
update on the toolbar. PR is calculated throughout the time before they
update the toolbar, you just don't know the real PR. Anyway, there are a few
things that can make your PR go down.

1. A loss in links.
2. Links from other pages having a change in their PR.
3. You have added more pages causing your total PR to be spread more than
before.

I am sure if you check the links to your site you will find that there are
some changes.

Showing PR4 on mine.

Have you checked to see if any of your pages are being cached as 31
december 1969.
I did check about 5 pages on your site for this feature, but did not
see any.

It is a 4.

By the way adding pages to your site does not cause a drop in PR (the new
pages may be zero PR for a time until google does a pr update)

It says 4 from my browser too.

The PR update seems to have lowered PR across the board. See the thread at
WebProWorld in the Google forum.

Also there is talk that the new algorithmn introduced over the weekend may
favour good quality outbound links. Does any body see any evidence of this
for their sites?

Just in case nothing changed on your site, and you kept all your
backlinks, there could *still* be a drop in PR. If I understand it
right Google looks at the whole web and determines percentages, say:
- the top 100 sites will be PR10
- the top 10,000 sites will be PR9
- the top 100,000 sites will be PR8
- the top 1,000,000 sites will be PR7
and so on, and "top" being largely defined by backlinks.
I could be wrong, but this would mean that simply *other* sites
increased their share of backlinks far faster then yours. In other
words: the web is growing, and if your backlinks don't grow at the same
speed your status will be lowered by Google. They need to balance it
out, or else people would end up having PR11, PR12 and so on because
the web (and number of backlinks in total) grows!

Good point!

People are talking about major PageRank changes see
http://www.webproworld.com/viewtopic.php?t=34804 and this one
http://www.webproworld.com/viewtopic.php?t=34859, so if Google has changed
the way it distributes PR does that mean the algorithm has changed? And do
outbound links now affect your PR, see
http://www.webproworld.com/viewtopic.php?t=34910

To sum up, perhaps the algorithm hasn't changed but the way PR is calculated
has.
