Default PPC & "Content Match" - Results? - 06-25-2003 , 07:39 AM

Has anyone had success with "Content Match" advertising?

I just got an email that Overture is about to add "Content Match". Google
has had that (perhaps not implemented the same) for some time.

I tried it on Google (it was free for a while) but the click-through-rate
was far lower than what I'd been getting for standard keyword matching.

I suppose if you're only paying for clicks it doesn't matter from a cost
viewpoint, but if it affected your overall CTR calculation it might be a
problem (I'm not sure if Google counts Content Match CTR against your
total.)

Anyhow - has anyone had success with Content Match on Google or anywhere
else?

Thanks,

Bob Kochem

I'm having problems with "Content Match". Overture's communication
said that "Content Match" would be effective June 27 but they have
been applying it to at least one of my keywords for the last few weeks
and I suspect over a month ago.

Basically, I target customers looking for hotels so I have a keyword
for 'xyz hotel map'. Overture started sending traffic for 'xyz map'
(i.e. without the word 'hotel') to my site which is a lot (and I mean
a lot) of useless traffic. I've now turned "Content Match" off and it
seems to be okay. I have sent my issue to their support department.
I'll let you know how they respond.

Until then, I would not recommend "Content Match" as it has depleted
my account over and over with no useful traffic.

Cheers,
TM
