Default Popup ads and search engines - 08-09-2004 , 10:52 AM

My hosting company is offering some free web hosting if I put either
an ad at the top of my web page or a popup add on every page.

I do not like his ads for web pages. They are huge, brightly colored,
and animated; in other words they stink.

So I am trying the popup ad route. His popup ads are much more
tasteful and professional looking. Besides most people have popup
blockers, don't they?

Leaving aside for a second the question of whether for the human
visitor to my site the popups are good or bad, are popup ads bad for
search engines?

Will my site get penalized? Or are popups relatively neutral when
considering search engines?

Thanks for any thoughts.

Best regards,

Al

If the popup is js, the search engines won't know anything about it.
