Are you absolutely certain that it is *actually* hosted in the UK? I
have had hosts lie about where there servers are physically located.
The other thing could be that if you have too many US or rest of world
links then google might think that it deserves to rank in other
countries than the UK. Don't know if anyone can prove / disprove that
theory?
How long has this been going on? That is another issue. If it's very
recent then you may see some changes in the UK ranking.
Jez.
- Well, is it hosted on a UK server? Yes, as certain as I can be -
have traced it via thishttp://www.tracemyip.org/and it says it's in
the Uk and the host says they are in the UK
- No links go out from the site other than to the client's main
website which is ranked highly in Google
- The domain has been around for about 6 months now, the site for
about 3. I know it's not that long but then why does it rank on .de
and .com?
Thanks again for your help
Christoph
Can you give the URL and the .com SERP?

Sounds odd

Jez.

sure, the domain is midnightwalk.org

http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=midnight+walk

vs

http://www.google.com/search?q=midnight+walk

Christoph
Odd that it's served for Midnight Walk for Women in UK only search

http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en...UK%7CcountryGB

I can only guess that time will see the resolve. Google must be a bit
confused!

Jez.

Yeah, I know - it's even OK for midnightwalk or 'midnight walk herts'
or similar. Has been like this for a few weeks now and I thought that
time will resolve it but as it hasn't as yet I thought maybe it's
something to do with the domain ending.

Anyone else got some idea or all drawing the same conclusion?

Thanks again for your help!

Christoph

Why don't you try a couple of changes? See what happens of you change
the title and google picks it up.

Something like:

<title>Midnight Walk – St Albans UK Charity Walk 28th June</title>

Better use of h1 and 2 tags won't hurt either:

<h1>Women of all ages!</h1>
<h2>Latest news</h2>

Doesn't do a great deal for your cause.

Not that I expect it has anything to do with this issue - but seriously,
that's an impressive amount of meta tags! How long have you been
collecting them? :-)

<meta name="pageID" content="1"/>
<meta name="parentID" content="0"/>
<meta name="createdby" content="1"/>
<meta name="modified" content="20/5/2008"/>
<meta name="created" content="11/4/2005"/>
<meta name="modifiedby" content="1203005150640"/>
<meta name="templateID" content="1"/>
<meta name="keywords" content=""/>
<meta name="description" content=""/>
<meta name="isoStart" content=""/>
<meta name="isoExpires" content=""/>

<meta name="pageTitle" content="homepage"/>
<meta name="version" content="2"/>
<meta name="eGMS.accessibility" scheme="WCAG" content="Triple-A" />
<meta name="DC.language" content="en" />
<meta name="DC.date.modified" content="20/5/2008" />
<meta name="DC.date" content="11/4/2005" />
<meta name="DC.creator" content="Mark Thomas" />
<meta name="DC.title" content="homepage" />
<meta name="DC.publisher" content="www.midnightwalk.org" />
<meta name="DC.identifier"
content="http://www.midnightwalk.org/index.php" />

What DOES it all mean! :-)

Hi,

Yes, I agree with what you say about the title and headings, although
not sure it would actually make any change. It's not that I am
concerned about the ranking as such, I can tweak that later. It's just
that it's seemingly ignored .co.uk. but Ok on .com that I was curious
about.

As regards to the meta tags, that a whole discussion in its own right
but there are a long list of reasons for those but you are right, we
are reviewing those, too.

Thanks for you help

If I might add to the discussion?...

Make sure you have at least 1 in-bound link from a different domain. Usually
Googlebot will crawl it and you will see a positive result fairly quickly.
Good luck.

If your client has two sites, could there be a duplicate content issue?

Does it have substantial content of its own?

What's the point of this second site?

Are you searching for the URL, the domain, or keywords / phrases?

Yes, there is a small amount of duplication, although the duplicated
content is from the same event 1 year ago

Quote:

Yes

Quote:

The event has become big enough to justify its own site - it give the
charity more scope to promote the event and allows for better
promotion of sponsors, too

The sites does come of for certain keywords, but just "midnight walk"
does not bring it up at all
