Default No, really, sponsored links - 04-02-2005 , 02:24 AM

You know some days there's a sponsored link atop of the regular
organic results? Not just the usual sponsored links off to the right.
How do they get there and how much are they -ish? or is this something
I have to find a Google UK sales rep phone number for? I dunno squat
about these things and I'm about to be asked.

Hi Bill,

It is call Google Adwords. Here is where the info is at.
https://adwords.google.com/

That should help you some. I don't know the cost. It would depend on the
keywords you are shooting for.

OK, I didn't read you correct sorry. Those top ones come from Overture I
think.

I always thought adwords was those blue things that I have too,
actually, in your web pages, not in Google serps.
Me wrong?
But like I say, I never went into this properly.

No never. Google never alters the natural results. If you're seeing
links from people who ALSO have adwords campaigns, it's because they
have a really good natural ranking as well - but it has nothing to do
with sponsorship.

Overture, on the other hand (which has recently changed it's name to
Yahoo something or other) has results IN THEIR natural listings, which
are sponsored... which may be one of the reasons so many people use
Google as their search engine (it gives consistently good results, and
they're not always commercial) and that in turn is the reason why google
will never mix sponsored links into their natural search results.

They show there too. Google has programs that you can join where you can
show google adwords in your own pages and take a commission on clicks
that these generate.

However, originally, Adwords campaigns were only shown to the right of
the results on the google search engine - and they are certainly still
there as well.

The more it costs people the better as far as I'm concerned.
