Default Is Google loosing sitemaps? - 08-07-2006 , 05:35 AM

I was sure there is properly working sitemap so I logged to the Google
sitemaps - and lo, three sitemaps for three different sites were
submitted, none is present right now. Sitemaps were fetched by G last time
about mid-July, three weeks ago. No idea what happened, the only thing I
am sure about is - I have not deleted sitemaps, even accidentally, as I
have not logged to sitemaps account for many weeks. Not to mention the
fact that I was not at home at the time.

You all better check you logs - is it only my isolated problem, or is it
some new Google bug? (err... feature?)

Some more info.

First of all, now miraculously all my sitemaps are back displayed, they
are just listed as not verified.

Second, Google has a new bot, look for Google-Sitemaps/1.0 in user agent
strings.

OK, lack of verification was my fault - I have deleted by mistake all
verification files. I have added them back on Tuesday, forced verification
(Google-Sitemaps bot checked their presence) and on Tuesday three sitemaps
were listed as verified - so I thought everything is OK. Up to now. Google
has lost sitemaps again, it doesn't list anyone of them.

In the meantime, on August 10th instead of trying to fetch sitemaps as
expected Googlebot (not Sitemaps bot) tried to fetch some non-existing
files - sitemap.xml.gz, sitemap.xml and sitemap_index.xml (I wonder if it
was really Google, if it is not forged somehow?)

Looks like sitemaps are still broken. Apart from the verification my
sitemaps were lost, reappeared and they are lost again.
