need help with 301 redirect

I have gathering info and not sure if this is correct, can some guru confirm
my statement for 301 redirect for URL redirect

redirect 301 /http://www.old.com/ http://www.new.com

redirect space 301 space/http://www.old.com/spacehttp://www.old.com

Is that correct on the faq. moving old site to new url..
redirect 301 / http://new.com/

other sources show old url and new url
