Default Are my titles and headers optimised? - 04-12-2005 , 10:36 AM

My site has been up for 5 months now and google has indexed more than
500 files. We have a regional dmoz listing and a yahoo listing but so
far our traffic is only at 50 visits a day.
I wondered if we have used our title and <h1> tags properly. I don;t
want to get obsessive over this but maybe we're missing something
basic. We've tried to keep the titles relevant to the page content..
If someone has the time to give me their two cents worth it would be
much appreciated.
Also is it possible that our graphic banner is clogging the page up
with too much code? We're due for a design overhaul anyway..

500 (!) pages, and 50 visits a day?

I take it that your site is roadjunky.com. Had a look, you need more links
to your site from other related sites. I see that you have some but they a
low in PR(PageRank) so you need more.

You only need one H1 tag, this should be your main starting phrase, then it
should be like an outline with the rest H2's through H6's. You need Alt.
Text in all of your images and make sure to add a link to them as this will
be used for ranking purposes. So, that mean that your banner could have
one...making it to where the banner plays a role instead of just being
pretty for humans. Your most important keyphrase should be used in your
title and keep the title to the point this makes the keyphrase worth more.

Then it just take time to get to where you want to be, as you need more
links to fight with the other sites that are competitors who already have a
load of links.

SOrry, I'm used to posting in webmasterworld which doesn't allow
posting of urls.
The site is www.roadjunky.com

Your title is OK, but you could do with a meta-keywords tag in the head
of your document. You have also spelt traveller incorrectly in the
description meta-tag.
The other thing I noticed is that you have LOADS of javascript and
html generating drop down menus and all sorts of things like that before
you get into any of the content. If I were you I would arrange things so
that search engine robots can get into the content before having to
wade through all that.

agghhhh table driven design! - move it to style sheets. Also check that
people are actually searching on the keywords you use in your title and
headings.

Use hyphens rather than underscores in your URLs if possible (don't do
this if the pages have lots of inbound-links already). Google seems to
be underscore blind.

You could also think a bit more about the anchor text you use on
internal links - this may mean you need to change your copy a bit.

I wouldn't waste my time typing a meta-keywords tag to be honest; it
won't make any difference to his ranking in Google.

Heh-heh. You been to mine lately?

Your tags to content ratio is still good though. I should have said
table driven design generated by a web editor.
