Default Moving Hosting company - whats the best way without screwing SERPS - 09-03-2006 , 11:17 AM

Hi All
I am really pissed with my hosting company. If its not the site that
goes down, its the shopping cart, if its not that, then its the email
servers.

I am thinking of moving to http://www.marblehost.com [If any good/bad
news about them, I would like to hear]

They do not use cart32, so I may plan to host the cart cart32
directly, with an extra cost. This is so I do not have to re-write the
site.

Now, what is the best way to move hosting company ?
I want it to be seemless to the user, and not to screw up SERPS.
Is it possible, or will it be months before I recover ?

Paul,

Moving hosts will not mess up your SERPs. It is done quite fast if you do it
yourself. If the server is down for sometime then yes.

I wouldn't have a f**king clue what to do. I just make sites. I know
nothing about backend stuff.

Although I "own" the domain name, it is paid for by the hosting
company. In the past I was told it would be okay, but as the hosting
company have been taken over, I don't know if they will just hand it
over etc. But I cannot take any more of their poor performance.

Thanks Bill. I've bookmarked it.

I was hoping to have the new company host it, then close the other
one. I guess that is not possible.
I will have to read that page more to see if it mentions it in there.

Bill he might have to transfer his site to another registry also with the
way it seems. If he can change the DNS then OK. I don't thin so. I think he
needs to transfer it so he has control over it.

Here's what I propose, Paul.

Go back to snail mail, grab a trolley from the local Asda and beg your host
to take you back. Buy them flowers if you have to... or throw a few quid at
'em. *smile*

Of course, you could otherwise accpet the consequqnce of having a different
IP address. Search engines /may/ perceive that as fishy, but probably would
not. Make sure you have your site set up on both hosts before you change the
equaduct (DNS servers). Remember that some WWeb sites don't have a fixed IP.

Best wishes,

Roy

Also be sure to use Netcraft and see who /else/ is on your IP address,
assuming you share server/addresses. You don't want the same server to give
Google an online shop, a casino and a woody.

Best wishes,

Roy

We don't really know yet. I'm not keen on the idea of the host owning
the domain.

Well, according to the previous owners, I own the domain, but you
never know with these new guys.
