It's easy to spot if you are: simply search for your own domain name and
see if your site shows up at #31 place instead of usual #1.

I hope you are not, but if you are, please post some data about your site:
how old, how many links per page max, ever been a part of linking
cooperative and so forth. I am trying to troubleshoot what's happening and
need more factual data.

The sites affected : shared hosting?

I have big troubles with my own domains even not showing up when i do
the search.
Absolutely not normal.
But i am with a cheap hoster who puts lot of sites on 1 server and
probably 1 ip.
So i am going to move the sites to a not shared server.

Just curios about the hosting side off this problem. Give some input
please.

I looked into this after reading your message since my site went down 30
places on the SERPs in late April, went back up a bit, and then went back
down and has stayed down since the end of May.

After reading the thread at WMW, three days ago I went through my site and
replaced the text of all " alt= my targeted keywords " with innocuous text
and this morning, my SERPs had moved up 23 places. Let's hope it stays that
way.

Brad, why do you think the alt text has anything to do with it? (Sorry - I
can't read the WMW thread because I don't want to pay to subscribe to that
site.)

Very curious.
best,
Denise

How would shared hosting be causing this?

1) hijacked sites who sent spam to the world
Unless you site was jacked it won't harm your rankings.

Quote:
2) to many pages on 1 server
Makes no difference as Google doesn't go by server or IP address I
have banned sites on the same server and IP of sites doing really
well. There are servers with hundreds of thousands of sites on them,
yet individual sites do well.

Quote:
3) ?
If you think something is wrong with your site post the URL and what
you think is wrong and you might be lucky and get the right cause (if
something is wrong).

IME most sites that rank poorly are due to a lack of
optimisation/links and or age (age of links to be precise
http://www.seo-gold.com/tutorial/goo...x-effect.html).

Quote:

I wouldn't expect and improvement.

BTW check your domain here http://www.whois.sc/ to see how many sites
are using the same IP. For example
http://whois.domaintools.com/seo-gold.com is sharing the IP with 17
other sites, the server though has about 200 domains hosted and a
bunch of sub-domains.
