I thought I was starting to understand some basics about SEO, but I'm a bit puzzled at the following result. Before starting to optimize my own site, I decided to have a look at other sites targeting the same keywords as me. These keywords are "chambres d'hotes quercy". I typed these words (without the quotes) in Google and #2 is http://www.quercy-vacances.net/. I just wonder how this is possible since: - the keywords "chambres d'hotes" appear in the title, the meta tags, that's all. - the keyword "quercy" appears in the meta tags a few times and in one anchor text - they have 4 (four !) backlinks to them (according to Google) From what I read previously, I'd expect this is to be a bit short in terms of SEO... And yet, they are #2. Any idea how this is possible ? Vincent. |

These keywords are "chambres d'hotes quercy". Vincent. Noone is going to be optimising for that keyphrase IMO. |
|
And noone is going to be searching for it. (According to overture) Good point, but I still can't think of better keywords. If you search |

You have to do different typed searches to find all the sites, and even then it still wouldn't show them all but would give you a rough estimate. Try searching different ways to see if you can find them. Most of the time if you use the person's business name in quotes it will bring up most of them. You were right, I followed you instructions and got more results, so I guess this is finally the reason why they get such a good ranking. The funny thing is that among the links I found, there is one from the Google directory... which doesn't appear if I you use the "link:" search in Google ! |

Thanks, Vincent. |
