What is the proper way to use the descirtion tag? I heard it's ok to
basically put keywords in it. Does it matter?

Try not to repeat the keywords, and try not to make the description tag
to long because it will get cut off at a certain length. ( and they
will replace the end of it with a "...")

(Meta name="Description")
The description meta tag is a useful one, because it's what the
visitor will see when she/he types in the keywords you have in your
meta tags.

When a keyword is found in your meta description by a search engine, it
should show in bold text.

Heres a example of the description meta tag:

Meta name="Description" content=" Buy chickens (shipped to you in a
bag of ice), chicken fur, and chicken fur coats directly from us, free
shipping on all orders worth 5 chickens or more."

If you haven't already, you should read up on the other meta tags, like
the robots meta tags for example, you can tell a robot to keep coming
back everyday! You can even tell the robot/crawler that you want ALL
your sites crawled
Does it say anything about how you can call creatures from the vasty
deep? Sheesh!

Robots are like children when it comes to the robots tag. They only come
when they want to, not when you tell them. They choose to do only the work
they need to do and leave, and not because you ask them to. Finally and this
is with or without a tag just general info how robots are like children,
they never clean up their mess, keeping things for years.

which is ignored by google etc.
Pointless adding that metatag.

Not really, as Google uses the title and the metas to quickly define a
page
for supplemental. If a page isn't defined good enough with these or they
are
all the same you find those pages in the supplemental now. Been seeing
this
for several months now.:-)

Did you misread what I wrote ?
I was talking about the robots metatag - NOT any other tag.

Yeah I did, the subject of this thread is meta description. So I just read
your reply.:-)
