Default Is Lycos resorting to aggressive browser hijacking? - 01-10-2004 , 09:28 AM

Lately, I have noticed that Lycos often comes up as the "site not
found" page. Other times, a Lycos Sidesearch pops up.

Worse, the Lycos "not found page" has popped in even when a site
exists if there is any delay in contact.

I call this browser hijacking, and will steer clear of Lycos from now
on. They might as well fill their site with links for Viagra,
Work-at-home, and weight-loss pills like those other worthless "search
pages"!

Back in the old days of the mid 90's, Lycos was one of the leading and
most respected search engines. I guess they have become desperate in
response to competition from Google, Yahoo, etc.

Hi - do you know how to disable the Lycos usurping of the "page no
found" error? I would rather see a 404 or 405 than the Lycos searc
page. Very annoying. I have looked around the Search customiz
options, but haven't found anything that controls what happens when a
invalid URL is entered. Thanks
