Default Looking for JOB as SEOptimizer - 08-13-2003 , 08:39 PM

Seo Group,

Are there any sites that specialize in seo jobs? If so, what titles do the
use? I receive emails from dice on web designer openings but none on seo
openings. Thanks for your help!

Go to careerbuilder.com or hotjobs, etc. and search using the keywords
"search engine" and you will find several openings. They tend to be in
larger cities and are usually in-house positions. No telecommute.

Heres an idea. If you can bring in traffic for someone else's website
then why not do it for your own sites? I finally decided to start my
own net biznezz and build up a steady income for myself instead of
someone else.

I got tired of the few sites I did where I got paid a small amount and
in some instances the companies made over a million dollars from my
efforts.

I can imagine that being a bitter-sweet feeling.

The site I was referring to was an online college that brought in over
a million a year in tuition. It didnt seem realistic to me that I
could start an online college (although a friend of mine is currently
in his second year and doing well), but the point is if you are good
at SEO then doesnt it only make sense to do it for yourself??? Why do
you need an employer? And if you can't build an online business for
yourself then could you do it for someone else?
Something to think about.

Tim

Agreed,

The difference I see is you should work fo rsomeone else if you are not too
good at building a business, work fo rsomeone else. I you believe you can
do it better, doit yourself.

I started of just registering a domain for fun thinking one day it
might be worth something to someone.
Started playing around building a site, learnt about optimising here
and suddenly started getting hits and then enquiries about products.
I then started a small business, contacted manufacturers, put there
products on my site and now regularly sell over a £1,000 worth a week.
With a 30/40% mark up it's a nice bit of pocket money for a few
phone calls, emails and a bit of tinkering on my website.
My site is now no.1 for most relevant keywords and I am averaging
50 hits a day, may not sound a lot, but when it is searches for a specific
item it brings good results.

Sorry,

I was pre-occupied during that last post.

If you are uncomfortable building business (marketing, sales, profit
analysis, unsteady income) then stick with working for someone who handles
all of that for you.

If, however, you know deep down inside that you can do it better, then by
all means, strike out on your own.

I've started businesses a couple of times...and done
reasonably well with them...but I enjoy actually doing
marketing, SEO and site development work...I don't enjoy
dealing with accounts, credit control, taxes etc...so I'd
much rather take in less money and work for somebody else

it is useful to know what running a successful business
requires...it's reassuring to know one can turn a profit
and provide good jobs to other people...but it takes a
particular mindset to want to keep that level of
commitment and responsibility when it comes to aspects of
running a business that one doesn't enjoy...not everyone
has that mindset

I completely forgot that some folks just don't want the hassle of
being in business for themselves. Self employment does have some
negatives. Cabin fever is defintely one of them. And it takes a lot of
patience and perseverance as your business wont be a success
overnight. I started part time for about two years until I could go
full time.
