Default Local SE Filters - 11-16-2004 , 03:16 PM

Hi Group

Can anyone explain how I can get my UK based .com site to appear in the UK
sites only results? Could this be done by adding a tag to the code? I
notice some .com sites in the UK results but the vast majority are filtered,
including mine .

Thanks in advance!

Craig

There is a possibility that your IP address (or block of IP addresses) is
not recorded by Google as being in the UK. It would be worth asking your
hosting provider about this and asking them to somehow tell Google what IP
addresses are actually in the UK. They may be able to update their
database. The hosting provider might know of some central registry of IP
addresses and a proper process for updating IP address and country location
information.

Best regards, Eric.

Google probably gets this info directly from the registry databases, for
example RIPE.

Craig,

Is the site hosted on UK servers? I have a .net site that had the same
problem, and after switching to a UK based host it was in the top 10 for
the major search terms in google the next day.

It is hosted on a dedicated IP server in the USA. I will try get the IP
registered as a UK IP and see what happens.

Thanks very much for all your help!

I have just found out that it is not possible to change the an IP addresses
registered location. I therefore have two options:

1. Move to a UK registered IP group. I don't really want to do this because
I really like my hosts at the moment!

2. Try and find some other way to make the search engines know the site is
aimed at the UK market. It has UK all over it and in the titles etc... but
still get filtered. I had hoped a simple meta tag could solve the problem.
Can anyone suggest a way other than moving hosts?

Thanks!

Craig

Craig,

Is the site hosted on UK servers? I have a .net site
so it's a dynamic site in aspx?
