Default Link Page Protocol - 08-11-2006 , 10:58 AM

As previously discussed in Looking For Links post I have been working
on adding external links to my website and am now trying to determine
if Googlebots prefer external links to be opened in "SAME PAGE" or is
link to a "NEW PAGE" acceptable (which I would prefer) ?

Would appreciate feedback on this topic to continue my SERP education.

Thanks, Chas

It doesn't matter Chas. A link is a link. It all depends on how the visitor
feels having a new window opened.

I think there might be accessibility issues. I have to get up to speed
on all this.

Hi Chas,

It doesn't matter to the search engines if your link opens in a new page or
not. But it will matter to your human visitors. Before you make your
decision, you might want to read this good article on the topic:
http://www.accessibility-professiona...r-windows.html

best,
Denise

It rings a vague bell somewhere, like maybe text-readers have trouble
finding their way out of a new window. Something. This is where we
suffer from having Els on holiday. Being somewhere Els, so to speak.

One of the accessibility issues is it brakes the back-button. In the new
window, you haven't got the history of your wandering through the net.

Althoug, with more tabs opened, or even new window opening prevented by
FF i am not quite sure it still is an issue.

Even if you hit the back button fast a few times? I do that for those pages
that want to keep you. :-) I hate that!
