Default Keyword Desity - 09-15-2003 , 06:30 PM

I have ran several test for keyword density through several internet site
with several different results.

How is key word density measured it appears that some of the sites I used
counted the html and scripting and others I couldn't figure out what they
counted at all.

Also if I am correct I have heard that anything up to a 12.5% keyword ration
is safe (staying within a 7 - 10% keyword structure is recommended) and
under 3 is useless is this correct?

My site I am working on is: http://www.essenceoftime.com

Whoops. I've got a keyword density of 23.9% for my target phrase.
However, its got me to the #1 spot so I'm not gonna change it

How or where can I measure keyword density?

When it comes to getting good SERPs with Google forget keyword density
and concentrate on getting links to your pages using the keywords you
want to do well with in the anchor text of text links and ALT text of
image links. For deep pages (those that won't have other sites linking
to them) make sure you do the same with the links to your own pages.
Don't use anchor text like "Click Here" or words you aren't going
after as it's throwing away an opportunity.

I haven't measured the keyword density of a page for over 8 months,
just make sure the keyord/phrase is in the body text a few times (more
is better within reason) so that it still reads OK. If it looks like
spam reword it until it doesn't.

Biggest mistake loads of people make is using the anchor text HOME for
links to the main domain. Unless you are going after that word it
should either not be part of the link or alongside various other
keywords like -

"Keyword1, Keyword2 Home"

At least with the above some of the anchor text is relevant.

Better still use an image that says HOME and in the ALT text put your
main keyword for your home page.

Going to stick my neck out here to try to show how important anchor
text is. The home page for this site http://www.adultlingerieuk.com/
is linked to from all 2000+ pages on the domain.

For months the anchor text for most internal links to the home page
had the text- "Sexy Lingerie" and ranked at 7th/8th for the word
Lingerie.

About a month back the anchor text was changed to try to get more
traffic to the text - "Adult Lingerie UK your one stop Sexy Lingerie,
Bedroom Bondage Equipment and Adult Sex Toys Store" soon after it
dropped in the SERPS (for Lingerie) to as low as 15th (today 13th).

Two days ago the anchor text was changed to just one word "Lingerie".
At the same time I also changed the anchor text of external pages I
have control over (another 1000 pages) to Lingerie as well.

I expect the home page to break back into the top 10 for the SERP
Lingerie on the next big move and anticipate top 5 when all the pages
are reindexed (3000+ pages, so hopefully no more than 6 weeks from
today).

Have u tried BruceClay.com. check it out. it has a nice set of tools and
helps to understand the page make of the web page suiting search
engines. they have min and max % and most of all results are self
explanatory.

also every one has his own theory of search engine success. formulate
your own theory and follow it.

Whilst your advice about keyword-rich link-text is good, I have to urge
people not to "forget keyword density"

I found that keyword density (almost exclusively) got me to the top of
google for my main target phrase.
When I say "top" I mean I was just below the top spot which was occupied by
the manufacturer of blue widgets - a site with loads of inbound links.

SEO,

When you make those changes, do you resubmit URL or pages to all the search
engines?

Hi,

I only care about Google since it gives most return for my investment
in time.

I haven't submitted a page to Google for over a year (before I
understood SEO) because as long as you link to a new page (or updated
page) from pages already indexed Google will find them. With our main
site that tends to be within a few days, but the home page and several
others are PR7 so considered important by Google (Google spiders part
of the Lingerie site daily).

My understanding is submitting to google won't harm your site, but if
you know there are links to the page in question already it's a waste
of time.

Yup, that seems to be how it is.

SEO: Maybe you can clarify something for me? I have a website with 40
pages and all 40 pages link to each other and back to the index.html
page which has a site map of links for all 40 pages. I noticed that you
don't do it that way with your 2 websites and you have a really high pr.
Is what I'm doing hurting my pr and is it bad to link all 40 pages back
and forth to each other? ~Danny
