Default Internet Marketing? What else is there? - 02-02-2004 , 10:23 PM

Hello,

I started an eCommerce website selling telephone headsets. What other
form of Internet Marketing should I be considering other than SEO?

I already hired someone to help me with SEO of my website. while I am
waiting... What else can I do? Waiting for the SE's to optimize is
very painful... with all the inventory I have on hand and making no
money...

Should I hired an "Internet Marketing consultant" for other forms of
Internet marketing for my website? or is that a waste of money?

Any advice would be appreciated?

- Jeannie

Try PPC, (Pay Per Click) especially with Google AdWords.
That can provide you with a good "quickstart".

https://adwords.google.com/select/

Asolid Internet Marketing Campaign takes time...just ask Amazone.com how
long it took B4 they became profitable :-)

Another great source of reliable, tested information (and plenty of free
tips ) is Dr. E-biz. This guy is reputable and sharp...has been for years.

James,

Thanks for the reply

I am already trying Google Adwords. I'm only getting a few sales per
week, obviously I need more... to survive. Speaking of Google
Adwords, I still don't quit understand how Adwords work exactly and
how much I should set as maximum CPC in Adwords? I seem to be getting
the same number of clicks if set it for 0.22 or 0.36. So obviously I
set it at 0.22 now. Overture is much easier to understand, it tells
me exactly where I will be, but much more expensive ($1-$3) if I want
to be on the first page. Is there a trick to setting the Max CPC in
Adwords?

This is my problem... I don't have a "Marketing Campaign". I think I
need one, other than trying to be in the top 10 position of the Search
Engines. What if I don't get in the top 10 (not everybody does
right)? then my business is in serious trouble?!

Hi Jeanie,

I am no AdWords expert but many in this group are so they will have to
respond to your specific question.
I do know there is a book out on how to get the best out of Googles ADWords
and it is around $40 or so.

Being at the top of the Search Engines should be one part of your strategy.
For additional traffic, you might try some or all of the following;
1.) Directories that deal with what you are selling...this can be a great
source of traffic. Sometimes you will have to pay a little $$ for a link
though. Bussiness.com can draw some traffic for certain types of
businesses.

2.) Check out sites that are complementary and exchange links with them. for
instance, if you are a local realtor, you might want to work with local
moving companies, mortgage lenders, banks, community development agencies,
schools (including colleges) daycare providers, local eateries, etc.

3.) Check out the link I gave you to Dr. e-biz. There are plenty of free
resources on that site to get you up and running building your own Internet
Markeint Campaign...and you won't even need a consulant.

The number of clicks thing on adwords is because you have set a daily max
budget. As such Google runs an algorithm to stretch your budget through the
entire day. Because of this it turns your advert on and off to suit. At 0.36
you consume budget more quickly although you are a higher position you are
also "off" more per hour.

By lowering your price your position drops but you consume your budget less
so you are "on" more per hour. The other thing Google does is because your
budget is divided from 12 midnight to 12 midnight EST it will be trying to
save budget evenly across both peek selling times and non peek.

Often it is best to switch campaigns on and off manually for peek selling
times, play with your max budget and bid price to keep your site on during
your peek selling period.

Best regards

There is also the issue of traffic/sales conversion. Lots of traffic isnt going to help if your marketing /saley copy is optimal.
Consider researching the subject of marketing and sales copy or if you have the budget get professional copywriter in.

Alan,

Can you explain what "professional copywriter" is related to
traffic/sales conversion? I don't understand?? Who would you
recommend?

Copywriter is someone who specialises in the creation of marketing/sales text that works.

I do all my own copy so cant really recommend anyone. A search for "copywriting" on google might get you somewhere though.
Of course good copy will mean better conversion of traffic into sales.

Cheers
