Was it at one time possible to use this resource to look up webpages that are
no longer available? In other words, do a search with a version of Google
from, let's say May of 2000, type in a keyword or phrase, and find the
now-defunct page.
I seem to remember doing this, but it hasn't worked lately.

You used to be able to search ut with its own engine. I haven't tried
it for years.
